Focuses on the reading and analysis of selected Chicano writers whose novels have left a distinctive mark on Chicano Literature. Emphasizes the understanding of Chicano cosmology (society, culture, behavior, values) through the literary texts. No prior knowledge of Spanish required.
Reflection:
When I started this class, I was afraid because of the amount of books required and with it, the amount of reading. I was very surprise to say that I really enjoyed the selection of books. This is my first Chicano related class. While reading the books, I was able to develop critical thinking skills because we were required to have a class discussion whenever we finished a book. Also, I was able to better my literary analysis skills. I wrote two essays, where I analyzed one book by a female author and another by a male author. It was very interesting because even though the authors are from the opposite sex, they both projected similar social issues on their writing.
