Taught in Spanish, the course focuses on reading and analyzing works from Latin American women writers. Examines fiction by and about women from varied sociocultural backgrounds to discover the diversity and the commonality of female experience in different geographical regions. Students examine the narrative strategies employed by these writers in interpreting social, political, cultural, and religious forces that create gender, class, and ethnic barriers in Latin American society.
Reflection:
During this course, we read multiple books written by Latin American Women Writers. Through their writings, I learned about the female experience in different social-cultural backgrounds. I learned to analyze a novel just by reading and taking into consideration the time that it took place and the geographical location. By doing this, I was able to understand the complexity of the social-cultural problems. Before this class, my analyzing skills were not well develop. During this semester, I was able to write three critical essays that helped me prepare to write a final research paper. I enjoyed attending class because Dr. Zielina’s lecture where interesting and on task.
